Darley’s New Multi-Functional W.A.S.P. (Wildland Attack, Structure Protection) pumper.

Orcas Island’s innovative new Darley W.A.S.P. (Wildland Attack, Structure Protection) pumpers represent the latest in fire suppression technology and operational efficiency for small to medium size departments.

The 1250 gallon-per-minute Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) engines--built on Ford F-550 4x4 four-door chassis--were designed by Chief Mike Harris of Orcas Island Fire and Edward Wright of Targhee Fire Services to meet the unique insurance rating, response, personnel and financial requirements of the department.

The next generation Darley AutoCAFS system reduces activation steps from four to three, now just “1-2-3, CAFS!” The units’ lightweight composite rear bodies reduce weight, increase strength and provide generous storage space.

Features include a front/rear receiver-mounted winch, 12-volt HID high-intensity scene lighting, remote controlled front Water/CAFS 2 1/2" monitor, rear Water/CAFS hose reel, color coded pump panel, auto pump governor, Water/CAFS 1 ½ and 2 ½ preconnects, digital flow meters on all CAFS outlets and full compliment of ground ladders.

Additionally, the units use the new Darley AutoFill valve that automatically keeps the onboard water tank full when using either a hydrant or tender water supply during pumping operations. This provides consistent tank water to the pump removing the often tricky step of transitioning from tank to overboard supply.

Overall weight of the units is well within the unit’s official weight carrying capacity.
